Blue Jean

Today's Phonological Loop is brought to you by David Bowie's "Blue Jean" and the word "proboscis." This is the first time since I've started this blog that I've got a word or phrase stuck in my head. Years ago, while I was in high school I had the name "Hotblack Desiato" stuck in my head for over 3 days. The relating link: not recalling how to properly spell/pronounce the word. This leads to my brain repeating both variations of the word over and over until I can determine a solution.

Thankfully, today I've killed all of my loops for now. I've looked up my words, and I'm listening to David Bowie's greatest hits. Though, I must admit, I don't really mind it when I get a little Bowie stuck up there.

Frank's 2000" TV

I've learned that I can partially control what's running in my head, but if a song wants to stay, it's stuck there. This morning I woke up with 2 lines from "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Frank's 2000" TV" going over and over in a tiny, annoying loop. I realize this happens because I can't remember what comes before or after those lines, so it's a bit like a record skipping, it goe as far as it can, and then just jumps back. This morning, however, I was able to recall a second set of lines, which meant that I got 2 loops of the same song running around. Maybe next time I'll get two songs from the same album.

3 The Hard Way

As much as I try to get it out, every day for the past week I find myself repeating the line "Fresh dressed, 'cause I shop at Models" and then promptly forgetting the rest of the song. I don't know what's so appealing about the first line of "3 The Hard Way" by the Beastie Boys, but I think it has something to do with the way they say "FRESH."

Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

Today has been a robotic day for me. Could it be because I only got 4 hours of sleep? No! That just makes me a zombie.

I've been feeling the filtered disco house music that is Daft Punk's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger," coursing through my brain. Why is this? It probably has something to do with that terrible "collaboration" between Daft Punk and Kanye West, but it's mostly because I was reminded of this video recently.

Battle Hymn of the Republic

Yessir, that's right. This morning I was in a fervor and humming all I could remember of some song I couldn't even remember the title of. Thankfully, by the power of Google, I was able to determine that I was busy singing "Battle Hymn of the Republic" while I showered this fine morning.

I don't know if it was the beautiful day yesterday, spent picking apple, or what it might have been, but it was a fun little song to have rambling around up there this morning, even if I could only remember 2 words. Now, where did I place my stovepipe hat?

Has this blog already killed itself?

I intended this blog to be an interesting look into what my phonological loop does and why. The idea started because I had songs or perhaps a single word stuck in my head for days. I wanted to write down what was up there, if for no other reason than to amuse myself.

After just 3 posts, my head no longer holds songs. Is this a coincidence? Or perhaps by externalizing my brain I've "healed" it so to speak. My theory is that if this is true, this blog will become cyclic.

1) I get a song in my head and write it down
2) I get freed from getting things stuck in my head
3) I stop blogging
4) Go back to 1

Unlike my other blog, I do intend to keep this as up-to-date as possible. Ironically, this my mean that I don't post here for a while, just because there's nothing looping.

So until next loop...

If I Can't Have You

This morning I woke up to my brain singing "If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. I went to a wedding on Saturday and on the drive home I was listening to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack and thought, "hey, that would be a great song to have at a wedding!" Apparently, that's stuck with me all weekend.

Rehab

This morning I woke up with "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse stuck in my head. I know it had something to do with whatever I was dreaming about, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. And sadly, I don't know any of the lyrics but the chorus. Actually, I don't even know all the chorus lyrics. So I've just got "something, something go to rehab, and I said, no, no, no," looping just like that. Damn.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

I seem to always have something playing over and over in my head. In this blog, hoping to chronicle the what and why of my brain's phonological loop.

Today I've had "
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly stuck in my loop. I have no idea where it came from today; it's been over a month since I've listened to the song. I've got a mixture of the intro, the drum solo, and the last couple notes running around and around, chasing each other.
